| SportsLab:2020

In 2013, TERC received a National Science Foundation award for SportsLab:2020, an online platform for youth ages 12-18 in which participants collaborate and compete in sports-focused design challenges using social gaming. SportsLab:2020 aims to engage urban youth—many who may not think of themselves as STEM- or ICT- (Information and Communication Technology) oriented—in challenges that leverage their real-world interests to foster their abilities and engagement in STEM problem-solving. As the project evaluator, NewKnowledge is leading front-end research to explore project assumptions, including the effectiveness of using sports and games to increase youth interest and knowledge of STEM, and to explore how to optimize the digital collaboration space.
