NewKnowledge has partnered with The New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) to develop an unprecedented Global Compact for Early Childhood Development (GCECD) of cities collaborating to advance science-based systems and programs that guarantee each child born into this world is afforded the opportunity to develop to his or her fullest potential. The GCECD will comprise four separate convenings that will begin with two meetings of domestic cities followed by two that will comprise cities from around the world. GCECD cities commit to a holistic approach to integrated city services to support children in the critical 1,000 days following conception. The Compact integrates primary research on nutrition, cognition, and neuroscience into the health and social systems that surround every child. The cities will create ECD action plans that build upon and improve those already in existence in their cities, learn from each other, and share best practices. NewKnowledge is leading the research, coordination, and implementation of most of this three year effort, in collaboration with NYAS staff.
