NewKnowledge Researcher to Present on Systemic Change for Social & Environmental Justice
June 22, 2017
NewKnowledge will be sponsoring a special presentation at the Human Science Institute (HSI) 2017 Conference, to be held in September at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The conference theme is closely aligned with our mission – A Difference That Makes a Difference: Systemic Change for Social and Environmental Justice. HSI is a transdisciplinary learning community of scholars and practitioners dedicated to creating a humane and ecologically sustainable global future through education and research. Founded by Human Science scholars, researchers, students, and professionals, HSI supports the work of those responding to the challenges of our times by promoting a transdisciplinary framework that respects the multiplicity of views and ways of knowing in our diverse global community. NewKnowledge Researcher Rebecca Joy Norlander received her PhD in Human Science in 2014 and will give the presentation on behalf of NewKnowledge. This interactive session will explore the way a Human Science approach advances our collective understanding of how the public learns from, understands, and engages with creating a more equitable and sustainable world.
Joining Dr. Norlander at the HSI Conference will be Keynote Speaker Dr. Keith Tidball, Associate Director of the Civic Ecology Lab at Cornell. Since 2012, NewKnowledge has partnered with the Civic Ecology Lab as external evaluator on The Expanding Capacity in Environmental Education Project – EECapacity – which aims to build on and expand the critical role environmental education plays in fostering healthy environments and communities.
Scholars and practitioners are welcome to join Norlander, Tidball and others at HSI. Proposals due June 27.
