National Impacts of Library Public Programs Assessment

In 2013, the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded the American Library Association (ALA) a planning grant to support the development of a comprehensive research agenda and implementation plan to understand and document the characteristics, audiences, outcomes, and value of public programming in libraries at a national level. National Impact of Library Public Programs Assessment (NILPPA) aims to support strategic long-term advancement of understanding of how library programs increase broad public access to knowledge and foster support for lifelong learners across diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, including those with special needs or traditionally underserved groups. .

ALA’s Public Programming Office asked NewKnowledge to lead a multi-phase research planning process that encompassed a meta-analysis of existing evaluation data, national forum meetings, and a white paper that will be available online in October 2014.
