Initiative: Media & Learning

Key Questions:

  • What are the most effective ways to capture – and hold – the attention of different groups of people in order to support their learning and their access to learning?

The modern field of instructional design recognizes that there are many ways to learn – and that media and technologies have different affordances for learning. Our work centers the role of media in both formal and informal learning, acknowledging the vast amount of learning that happens outside of school settings. We are particularly interested in access to learning: how can we help those who have traditionally been excluded from formal learning, or marginalized in particular types of learning?
